Maqbool Fida Husain is the full name of MF Hussain. He is definitely India’s cherished artists. He is a
successful painter and his paintings mostly depict Indian women. He also gets involved in controversies
often. Other than painting MF Hussain is also acclaimed for drawing, film-making and writing.
Born on 17 September 1915 in Pandharpur, MF Hussain is also associated with the Indian Parliament.
His mother died at his very young age and eventually his father got into married life again. Hussain
pursued his basic education at Indore. He was interested in painting since his childhood. He got the skills
of calligraphy and got himself trained with Kufi Khat. At this time he also got involved in poetry. At the
age of 20 he shifted to Mumbai with the fervor of becoming an artist. Hence was his association with J J
School of Arts for a year.
It was during 1937 that Hussain started earning his livelihood; he started painting movie hoardings. At
the beginning he struggled but came out in flying colors at later stages. MF Hussain also tested waters
in different jobs a d the lucrative one was in a toy factory. In 1941, Hussain wedded Fazila.
During 1947 MF Hussain got himself associated with Progressive Artist’s Group. At one time a painting
of his earned him 2 million dollars.
Sunhera Sansaar is an excellent painting of Hussain which garnered him an award at an exhibition
conducted by the Bombay Art Society. This was during the year 1947.
The years 1948 to 1952 were a landmark in Hussain’s career as his exhibitions were held at All India
Level. MF Hussain’s initial solo exhibition was organized at Zurich during 1952. MF Hussain got himself
involved in several international shows.
MF Husain has achieved a feat by producing 50000 arts in his profession. MF Husain has indeed
extended the boundaries of India in the international map.
Through the Eyes of a Painter is the debut short film of MF Hussain. This film fetched him the Golden
Bear Short Film Award. The other endeavors of Hussain in movies include Meenaxi:A Tale of Three Cities

his times.
