David G. Lowe is a scientist working in the fields of robotics, computer science, and artificial intelligence. He is of Canadian origin and is Professor Emeritus. He teaches at the University of British Columbia in the Department of Computer Sciences. He worked with Google for three years as a Senior Research Scientist. He co-founded a computer-based startup called Cloudburst Research in 2009, which was acquired by Google later. He has authored a thesis on Perceptual Organization and Visual Recognition. Over the years, he has been appreciated and awarded the PAMI Distinguished Researcher Award in 2015. He has also been felicitated at the International Conference on Computer Vision twice (2011 and 2017) with the Helmholtz Prize. He is applauded for his computer algorithm – SIFT i.e. Scale – Invariant Feature Transform. He is also a part of the advisory faculty at Thomas Binford.
