The events shown in the movie are based on the India-British Chittagong Uprising. The film starred Manoj Bajpayee as Surya Sen, Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Nirmal Sen, Rajkumar Rao as Lokenath Bal, Barry John as Magistrate Wilkinson, Helen Jones as Emma Wilkinson, Delzad Hiwale as Jhunku, Tanaji Dasgupta as Rajat Sen, etc. The musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy composed music for the film. The film's story revolves around a 14-year-old boy named Jhunku, who lives in British colonial India's East Bengal ( Bangladesh) where he, his friends, and his teacher Surya Sen are on a mission to fight against the British and take on the Empire. At present, Jhunku is 23 and is on a run from the police with his childhood friend Aparna for revolting against colonial rules and policies. In the meanwhile, he goes on in the flashback of his memories. The film is setup in the 1930s, when Jhunku is determined to free his country from British rule.
