He was an assistant director to filmmakers Bedabrata Pain, Claire McCarthy and Aparna Sen in films 'Chittagong', 'The Waiting City' and 'The Japanese Wife’ respectively. Dasgupta has acted in seven films. His filmography mostly consists of independent or 'offbeat' films. Tanaji Dasgupta was born in Kolkata, West Bengal.
He later moved to Mumbai to establish himself as an actor. The actor/filmmaker has been in the industry for more than a decade now but has failed to make a mark as a mainstream Hindi film actor/filmmaker.
