Naeem Mohaiemen is a multi-talented man. He is an artist and researcher who utilizes various mediums, such as film, photography, installation, and essays, to delve into the postcolonial history of South Asia. His focus lies on significant events such as the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947-1948. One of his works examines the role of misinterpretation in global solidarity among the revolutionary left in the 1970s. Naeem Mohaiemen is a part of the Independent Cinema Council of the Institute of Contemporary Arts. Naeem Mohaiemen's academic achievements include earning a Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University in 2019, where he currently serves as an Associate Professor of Visual Arts.

He received his BA in economics with a specialization in history from Oberlin College in 1993 and also served as a member of the college's Board of Trustees from 1994 to 1996. Naeem Mohaiemen is a renowned artist and filmmaker whose works have been showcased in numerous exhibitions and festivals worldwide. Tripoli Cancelled received its world premiere at Documenta 14 in Athens in 2017, followed by its British and American premieres at the British Film Institute London Film Festival and the Museum of Modern Art, respectively. His film Two Meetings and a Funeral, a part of The Young Man Was project, was also premiered at Documenta 14 in Kassel, followed by its British premiere at Tate Britain as part of the 2018 Turner Prize shortlist and its American premiere at the Art Institute of Chicago.

The Young Man Was project is a four-part series, with each part exploring different themes. Part 1: United Red Army, premiered at Sharjah Biennial, Hot Docs, and International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), and is in the permanent collection of the Tate Modern. Naeem Mohaiemen has produced more pieces outside The Young Man Was project, such as Patriot Tale and Fear of Flying. He was a founding member of Visible Collective, an art and law group exploring the post-9/11 security hysteria, and he has exhibited his solo work in numerous shows across the world. The Whitney Biennial of American Art, the British Museum, the Frieze Art Fair in London, the Biennials of Lahore, Sharjah, Marrakech, and Eva (Ireland) have all featured his works on display. In addition to writing Prisoners of Shothik Itihash, Mohaiemen edited two anthologies, Collectives in Atomized Time and Between Ashes and Hope: Chittagong Hill Tracts in the Blind Spot of Bangladesh Nationalism.
