Moti Nandy was a Bengali writer and journalist who was born on 10 July 1931 in Kolkata. He completed his graduation from the University of Calcutta. In 2008, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award at a ceremony to mark the grand finale of the maiden edition of the Excellence in Journalism Awards. He became a sports journalist and also worked as a sports editor in Anandabazar Patrika. The character Kalabati from his novels became very popular among youngsters. His first short story was published in Desh Weekly in 1957. The famous personality died on 3rd January 2010 at the age of 78.
