Nabarun Bhattacharya was a scholar with qualifications in Geology and English, respectively, from Calcutta University in Kolkata, India. Nabarun Bhattacharya's family tree is such a spectacular one. As a child, he had prominent personalities around him as family members, including his 'maternal grandfather' who was a writer. His family background is a remarkable factor in his lifetime philosophy, ideologies, concepts, and career choices.

As a boy, he took inspiration from the notable actor and playwright Bijon Bhattacharya - who was his father, and from the visionary filmmaker well-known for his 'artistic' faculties - his uncle. As a writer, Nabarun Bhattacharya excelled greatly in his works - his artistic writings were notably unique, had unique features, and were known for the theme of liberation for the oppressed. His notable works include Herbert 1994, Lubdhak 2006, Kaangaal Maalshaat 2004, Halaljhanda O Onyanyo 2009, Mahajaareer Aayna 2010, Andho Biral, Fyaturur Khumbhipak, Raater Circus, Anarir Naarigyan, Mausoleum,  and Fyatarur Bombachauk. Joratali and Mablage Novel were his posthumous books. He wrote several poems and a book of poetry titled - Ei Mritiyu Upotyoka Aamaar Desh Na (This Valley of Death is not My Country).

His book Herbert won the Sahitya Akademi Award and was translated into English by Sunandini Banerjee. Apart from writing books and poems, he was an editor for magazines. Nabarun Bhattacharya died on 31 July 2014 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, due to pancreatic cancer. Although Nabarun Bhattacharya is dead, it can be well said of him that - he lived a fulfilled life as a writer.
