Baidyonath Bhattacharya also known as Bani Kumar was a composer, radio broadcaster, and scriptwriter from Kolkata, India. He was born on 26 November 1907, in Kanpur village of Howrah. His father’s name was Bidhu Bhushan Bhattacharya and his mother’s Aparna Bhattacharya. After receiving his elementary education from Howrah District School, he went on to graduate in English honors from Presidency College. He also studied Sanskrit as an ancestral influence from his father & grandfather and was given the title of ‘Kabya Saraswati.’ Initially, he worked for All India Radio as a writer in its early years of operation. Later, he also wrote the Mahishasuramardini narration, a recitation that fascinated the Bengalis all over the world.
