Partha Barman mostly worked in the Bengali cinema business as a location recordist, sound designer, and re-recordist. He switched his focus and enrolled in the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute of India to study Sound Engineering after studying for a degree in Physics and Astronomical Sciences for his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, respectively. He has been working on several projects, including short films like Khoj, Shohore, That Boy, Death of JLG, etc. Additionally, he contributed to several feature films, including Prohor (winner of the National Award and the Silver Peacock at IFFI), Teen Yaari Katha, Bish, Padokkhep, Bakita Byaktigato, and Cosmic Sex, among others. Additionally, he contributed to various documentaries, such as Sita Kahini, Under the Sun (winner of a National Award), Love in India with Vilayat Khan, Johar (winner of a National Award), etc.
In 2006, his work on Bishar Blues earned him the National Award for best audiography in the non-feature segment. Partha Barman's professional high point for realistic sound design was the National Award-winning, minimalistic film Bakita Byaktigoto, directed by Pradipta Bhattacharya.
