Utpala Sen is a well-known Bengali Playback Singer. She was born on 12 March 1924 in Dacca Bengal Presidency, British India ( currently Dhaka, Bangladesh). She got training in Music from Hiranbala Devi and later by Ustad Gul Mohammad Khan.
At the young age of 11 years, she sang her first song in Dhaka Radio and recorded her first song in 1939. Her devotional songs Ek Hate Mor Pujar Thala and Mahishasur Mardinir Shanti Dile Bharibecame gained popularity. Later, She moved to Kolkata and became connected with Radio Akashvani.
In 1944, she began her singing career in the film Meri Bahen. After that, she gave the playback singing in various films. Her famous songs are Jal Sundar Sapno Me Tumhare from Manzoor, Rah Rah Ke Satati Hai from Mala, ago Sajni Aao from Mala, and Aaj Sahi INkar Magar Kal Karna Hoga from Zalzala. Her Tagore song Amar Mallika Bone in Bicharak became popular. Salil Chowdhary’s Prantarer Gaan Amar song is considered her best song.
