Born on September 4, 1904, Premendra Mitra was a poet, writer, and film director in Bengali language who belonged to a well-off family of Konnagar in Hooghly district, West Bengal. His father was a railway employee in Varanasi. His ancestral home of Premendra Mitra was at Raipur in the south 24 Parganas of West Bengal. Mitra was one of the most renowned novelists, short story writers, and poets in Bengal; Also, he used to practice Bengali science fiction. In light of his critique of humanity, he concluded that, "forgetting their differences and being united" was necessary for society to survive. "Prithibi Chhariye" (Beyond the Earth), his book on interplanetary flight, was eventually renamed "Shukre Jara Megh" (Clouds on Venus).

Mitra was a talented and respected author. Some of his most famous works include Paak (The Turn), Michhil (The Procession), Uponayon (The Ceremony), and Agamikal (Tomorrow). He wrote several plays and was a member of the Indian People's Theatre Association. He was also known as a screenwriter and director, and his realistic and ethical films were most famous among the audience. Along with writing books, Mitra also painted and illustrated. In 1961, he received the Rabindra Puraskar for his book "Kuhak". His distinctive writing style, which was a combination of elements of science fiction, fantasy, and social realism, made him well respected. Till this day his legacy is continued in the form of litrary events in Bengal.
