Bauddhayan Mukherji, who also goes by the name Buddy, is a filmmaker of Indian origin. He resides in Mumbai. His father, Banaj Mukherji, was a poet, and his mother, Mira Mukherji, was a school teacher. Buddy's interest in filmmaking was evident since a young age. When he was 11 years old, he was gifted a book called Ekei Bole Shooting (All About Shooting) by Satyajit Ray, which inspired him to pursue a career in filmmaking. He completed his education at South Point School, St. Xavier's College in Kolkata where he majored in Economics, and Clarion College of Communication, the first advertising college in eastern India. Bauddhayan Mukherji began his career in the film industry by joining Shyamanand Jalan's Audio Visual Arts, a Kolkata based production house.

He later joined Black Magic Motion Pictures where he started as an assistant director and eventually went on to become a partner in the company. One of his notable contributions was being part of the team that created Patalghar, a cult Bengali film in 2002. In 2007, he founded his own production house, Little Lamb Films, with his wife Monalisa. He has to his credit the direction of over 400 television commercials. He has also played a stellar role in building of brands like Nokia, Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, Unilever, GlaxoSmithKline, Honda, Coke, Colgate, Heinz, and Hyundai Motor Company. In 2010, he directed the Bell Bajao campaign for Breakthrough, which won the prestigious Silver Lion at Cannes. He also became the first filmmaker of Indian origin to win two back-to-back One Show merits at New York Click to look into! >> Read More... and Spikes Asia Golds at Singapore. His 2015 Haathipaon Mukt Bharat campaign for Sabin Vaccine Institute also won him another Silver Lion at Cannes Health.

In 2013, he stepped into feature films and directed two of India's most awarded and internationally acclaimed indies, Teenkahon (2014, Bengali) and The Violin Player (2016, Hindi). Both films have been screened at more than 85 film festivals across five continents. Teenkahon won him the Aravindan Puraskaram, an award by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy for Best Debutant Director in the country, and The Violin Player became the first Indian film ever to be represented by French Sales Agents, Alpha Violet. In 2021, he won his first National Award for The Shower, a Public Service Announcement (PSA) on rural-urban water inequality for Unilever, India. It became the first Indian advertisement film to win the National Award and won the Best Promotional Film in the non-feature film category at the 67th National Film Awards.

His upcoming directorial venture for Little Lamb Films, Marichjhapi, has already caught the attention in the international co-production market as it has been granted the opportunity to represent India at the esteemed Cinéfondation L'Atelier at the Cannes Film Festival 2020 and Asian Project Market at Busan 2019. Buddy lives with his wife Monalisa and their daughter Aarsha in Mumbai.
