Sumeru Mukhopadhyay was born on 16 May in Chandannagar. He resides in Kolkata. His father is Saumyendra Mukhopadhyay. Sumeru went to study at Hooghly Collegiate School. He studied mathematics at Scottish Church College from 1994-97. He learnt filmmaking at the Film and Television Institute of India from 1997-2000. He studied MM Wave technology, Satellite Television at the Department of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta, from 2000-01. He studied media studies at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Calcutta, from 2001-02.
He was an audio-visual programme director at Drik from 2008-09. He has been a freelance script doctor, AV project supervisor and post-production consultant since June 2013. He was the head of the post-production department at Nitish Roy Production from 2011-14. He has been working on the post-production at Subrata Sen Communication in Kolkata since 2013. He has been the chief editor at Lyrical Books since March 2016. He worked in the editorial department for the movies Chotushkone, released in 2014, and Punglingo Strilingo.
He has worked as an editor and illustrator for many books, which include Romonio Dhrohokal, Swad Sanchayeeta, Pakhalinama, Jhara Samayer Kathokata, TukiTaki Kujjhotika, Atapar Antapure, Kamlasundari, Jangolgatha O Rasonabilas, Ojaanaa Urhanto Boi, Loton Mutton Payraguli, Bazar Bhraman Samran Huda, and Khyaton Songi.
