Hons Chemistry from Magadh University, Diploma in painting from Prachin Kala Kendra, PG Diploma in cinematography and Film Video Production from SRFTII Kolkata, and PG Diploma in Cinematography as Disciple of legendary cinematographer- Late Subrato Mitra from Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute. Rupesh is a skilled photographer and has a great experience in photography and cinematography in Bollywood and Television. He worked as a cartoonist and director of photography for Ravi Ojha Productions (Star Plus). He also worked as a DOP for many organizations like Shashi Sumeet Group, Ravi Ojha Productions (Star Plus), and Mobius Films - India.

Rupesh Kumar has taught in colleges like Pearl Academy and MithiBai College as a visiting professor in Mumbai. He is currently serving as a professional cinematographer in Mumbai. In 2008, he started working independently on the leading channels of the Indian TV industry like Star Plus, Zee TV, Sab TV, Sony TV, Life Ok, etc. The most popular TV show of 2011-12, Sasural Genda Phool, was shot by Rupesh Kumar. Kashmkash, Kasak, Daastaan, Gustaakh Dil, and Muhboli Shaadi are the other hit fiction shows by Rupesh Kumar on Indian TV. He also shooted popular non-fiction shows like Sa Re Ga Ma, Film Fare Awards, Gully Cricket, Pogo Amazing Kids, Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao, etc.

Rupesh Kumar is a filmmaker as well. He directed short films and telefilms like Slippery Slippers, selected by Kolkata Short Film Festival in 2005. Diwano ki Eid is a telefilm by Rupesh Kumar. Rajrappa Temple Jharkhand is a short documentary shot by Rupesh in 2016. He is active in Bollywood as a well-known cinematographer for more than 15 years and also conducts classes for cinematography and filmmaking.
