Born on 23 April 1946 in Noakhali, Bangladesh, Rosy was an actress in the golden era of the Bangladeshi Film Industry. Her birth name was Shamima Akter Rosy. She started her career with the film called Eito Jibon released in 1964. Since then, she worked in more than 200 Bengali films. She also served as a supporting actress in around 2 Urdu films. She had primarily been in positive and sad roles. She also worked as the President of Zia Sangskritik Parishad (Zisus).
