Goutam Halder was associated with Nandikar theater group that had its base in Kolkata. The theater group started its first show in the 1960s and found a strong commitment from young theater personalities. In the beginning, there were plays based on English literature and later on, they carried out plays of Rabindranath Tagore too.

Actress Vidya Balan received magazine ‘Anandlok’ award for her debut in this movie. In the year 1994, his movie 'Story of Integration' fetched special jury award in the national film festival. in the year 2010, he acted in a Bengali movie 'Tara’ in a supporting role.

Thus, Goutam Halder who was a Bengali actor did choose some significant plays that were to come up on the stages of Nandikar Theater. Goutam Halder was associated with plays like Sesh Sakkhatkar, Football, Pheriwalar Mrityu, Meghnadbadh Kabyo, and Borda. After showing his histrionics in theater, the actor paid his attention to Bengali movies.

Recently, he has taken a keen interest to re-invent the stage activities in Kolkata along with his colleagues.
