Bankim Ghosh was a veteran actor who mainly worked in Bengali film industry and theatre. He was born on October 22, 1922. Bankim Ghosh’s place of birth is Kolkata, British India. He completed his matriculation exam from the Oriental Seminary School, Kolkata. He completed his Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com.) degree from the City College, University of Calcutta in Kolkata in 1938. In his student life, he was a good athlete. He was the winner of the Bengal Boxing Championship continuously for five years. Bankim Ghosh started his career as an actor on stage. He joined and performed in many theatre groups, including Bharatiya Gananatya Sangha, Ananda Bharati, Anandolok, and Rupkar. His passion for pursuing a career in the theatre & acting led to his separation from his father.
However, he left home and kept up an alternate career outside of theatre & acting during his early years. He worked many jobs at a range of places, including Jadavpur University, Grindlays and Company, India Airlines, and Calcutta High Court. His last Bengali film was “Hirer Angti,” directed by Ritupomo Ghosh in 1992. In his acting career, he had appeared in almost fifty films. He is known for serious antagonistic and comic roles. Besides acting, film, and theatre, Bankim Ghosh was keenly interested in several other fields. He was keen on fitness, boxing, and football. Bankim Ghosh was an ardent social activist for child rights. He joined and worked with a child welfare group known as Jatiyo Sangho. Bankim Ghosh died on June 3, 1992.
