Shabaash Mithu is a sports drama based on the life of Mithali Raj, the Captain of Indian Women’s cricket team. Priya Aven scripted the movie, and Srijit Mukherji directed it and Viacom 18 Studios produced it. Sirsha Ray cranked the camera and “A Sreekar Prasad” edited the film. Amit Trivedi composed the songs, and the BGM is by Salvage Auto Collective. Taapsee Pannu, Mumtaj Sorcar, Devadarshini Chetan, Vijay Raaz and Brijendra Kala are cast.

Mithali, who was born in Hyderabad to a Tamil family, is an excellent Bharatanatyam dancer. She got interested in cricket when she was young, and it was her friend, who inspired her. All efforts Mithali took to establish herself as a cricketer, and all hurdles she faced are shown in the film.

Star Performance

Taapsee has once done a great job. She reflected Mithali’s feelings, but not imitate her. In fact, this is the biggest plus. The rest of the stars did their best.

As it is a biographical movie, the team has to collect a lot of things about the cricketer and the surroundings. The cricket scenes had been shot well. Though a couple of scenes remind us of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chak De India, Shabaash Mithu has its uniqueness. Yet, the screenplay should have been better. The editing should have been a bit crisper so that the audience wouldn’t lose their patience while watching a biopic. The songs and music are good. The cinematography is pretty decent. The film is technically sound, and the production values are good.

What’s There?

  • The performances of the stars are good
  • Cricketing scenes are well-choreographed

What’s There?

  • The screenplay should have been better

Shabaash Mithu is a decent biopic on Mithali Raj, the Indian Women’s Cricket Team Captain. With the beautiful efforts by Taapsee, Mithu Shines!
