Mundur Krishnankutty

He is also popularly known as Anupurath Krishnankutty. He was born on 17th July 1935 in Mundur, Palghat and his parents are Manakulangara Govinda Pisharody and Anupurath Madhava Pisharasyar. He is a Malayalam- language writer. Krishankutty did his schooling from Parali High School. Then completed master degree in English literature from Government Victoria College, Palakkad. He continued his studies by completing B. Ed degree from NSS College, Ottapalam. In his profession, he chooses to be a teacher in Polakkad VVP High School and Chittoor Training School between 1956 to 2005. He started to write stories in the Malayalam-language. The first story written by him is Kanalichekkan (cowboy) in 1956, which published in Navayugam weekly.

In the same year, he wrote another story “Ambalavasikal” which means temple workers; it got published in the Matrubhumi Illustrated Weekly. He had written more than three novels and 200 short stories. In his stories, he mainly focused on the portraits of life in Palakkad village. He focused on the development and improvement of an agrarian society. For three years(1996-1999), he was the chairman of the Kunchan Nambiar Memorial at Killikurisimangalam in Palakkad district. In the late 1940s, Krishnakutty and his some mates also used to do stage shows and plays. Some of them are Cherukad's 'Manushyabandhangal', 'Tharavaditham' etc. Because of these plays a library established in Mundur.

Some of his famous short stories collection are- Nilappisukkulla Oru Rathriyil, Aswasathinte Manthracharadu, Ethratholamennariyathe, Moonnamathoral, Ammakku Vendi, Thannishtathinte Vazhithappukal, Kathapurushan, Avaseshippinte Pakshi, Enne Veruthe Vittalum. For Nilappisukkulla Oru Rathriyil, he was awarded with the Cherukad award in 1996 and in the year 1997 with the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. In 2003, he received an award Odakkuzhal Award for Enne Veruthe Vittalum. One of his story 'Moonnamathoral' was declared to be in top best short stories by T. Padmanabhan. In the story 'Oru Lakshanam Kettonate Vedantham' he beautifully portrayed the grief of his pre-deceased wife, Radha. His only son Dileepan was his support. Suffering from liver problem Mundur Krishankutty passed away on 4th June 2005 in a private hospital at the age of 69.
