Mahakumbh is a mythological thriller in the Telugu language that airs on the channel, Maa Gold. Maa Gold is an urban channel which is a subsidiary of the Star Maa group of channels under Star India networks. The show, Mahakumbh is the Telugu dubbed version of the Hindi television show with the same name. The Telugu version started airing on 5th June 2017. The show is aired from Monday to Saturday at 9:30 p.m. The Hindi version of the show had a total of 122 episodes. The Telugu version has currently completed 75 episodes and is still in the running.

Each episode of the show lasts for 30 minutes. Mahakumbh is a mythological and supernatural thriller about the journey of a young boy from the state of Uttar Pradesh who possesses supernatural powers. The show is shot on the lines of the Maha Kumbh mela which is organized every 144 years in India. Rudra, as a child once visits the Mahakumbh with his father. However, due to a blast on the bridge to Ganga which was planned by Balivesh, one of the lead priests of the Mahakumbh and a member of the Naga clan, Rudra is thrown into the Ganges and separates from his father.

He is recovered by Udiya Baba of the Mahakumbh, who takes him to Mai Mui. Rudra is brought up by Mai Mui in the ashram itself. However, Rudra hates the place and the Kumbh because he considers that the Garuda birthmark on his back is the reason why he lost his father and his loved ones. He is unaware of the fact that this mark in his body gives him certain powers. He realizes that he possesses some supernatural power later on the show when one day, he escapes a huge accident without any damage whatsoever. Rudra’s life starts to take interesting turns after this discovery.

He is all confused , and clueless about the importance of any of this. In the meantime, Rudra is all grown up and now, cremates bodies at the river bank. Here he meets a girl named Maya and falls in love with her. Slowly through a series of incidents, Rudra’s father Shivanand comes back and clarifies all of Rudra’s doubts. He tells Rudra that the mark on his body represents the Garuda clan who have been the protectors of the Mahakumbh since its inception. The Garuda clan protects the Amrit, the life elixir that comes up every 144 years in the Ganges, from the Naga clan who want the elixir.

There are seven members in this Garuda clan, Rudra and his father being two of them. Upon realizing this, Rudra and Shivanand set out to find the other five members.
