Vineet Kumar was born in 1957 in the capital of Bihar state, Patna, and completed his education from there itself. He had a passion for acting from the days of college and pursued it by giving continuous performances in theater plays. In 1973, he joined a theater association (IPTA) in Patna and joined the renowned drama school, NSD, in Delhi, during the participation in the Jayaprakash Movement.
He debuted in Bollywood in 1994 with the Hindi film, ‘Drohkaal’, and has continued his work till date. He is renowned for characters of many flavours including serious, negative and comic. He has worked under the directions of Rakesh Omprakash Mehra,
Ram Gopal Varma and
Govind Nihalani. Besides Hindi films, he has also appeared in various regional languages including the Telugu blockbuster, ‘
For TV, he has made a familiarity with the Hindi audience by playing characters in popular shows like ‘Swabhiman’, ‘
Kagaar’, ‘Lapataganj’, and ‘Chidiyaghar’. The later two shows are family shows and based on the story of the common society and families. He played comic characters in both of them. He is currently working in ‘Maha Kumbh’, which airs on the Life OK channel. The show showcases the story of a child who goes missing in the Maha Kumbh Mela in Banaras. He is bestowed with extra ordinary power and regarded as the savior of Maha Kumbh.
Apart from the Indian entertainment industry, he has worked in various English language films of Hollywood, including Martin Sheen’s ‘Bhopal: A Prayer of Rain’, which was co-produced by
Mischa Barton. He also acted in ‘Return to Rajapur’, a film by Lynn Collins.
During the days of NSD, he completed his post graduation in Drama and Arts. He lives in Mumbai, along with wife, Manoranjan Dhaliwal. His elder brother, Sunit Kumar, is posted as an IPS officer in the Bihar Cadre.
