The reality show “Coke Studio” MTV Season 9 in 2016 contains seven episodes with different artists and music directors. The season also witnessed one of its first few episodes and the last ever episode of Qawwali singer Amjad Sabri, who was killed just before the season was over. A total of 41 artists responded to the call and six of these music directors chose original songs to be performed. This was contributed mainly by the vocalists – still in line with Strings’ initial vision for/brief to the music directors who wrote/recorded all songs and the artists who sang each song and also in pairs and with choruses. Today’s show was composed of new songs with clear identification on innovative musical styles. Some new comers of Pakistani drama industry, Mehwish Hayat and Junaid Khan sang their first songs and Noori also guided Indian singer Shilpa Rao.
Shilpa Rao added her narration, “At Coke Studio Pakistan musicians meet each other and are allowed to play any instrument and in any style they wish to and it is compelling”. It was season of Pakistani music, entertainment and talent and together proved and established the unifying potential of music. It was another colorful season with great artists and music directors. As the ninth season of the most popular and effective music show of Pakistan, it left a prosperous impact on music industry. The concept of the show in which live music performances with unique collaborations has been much appreciated and has become a popular show to watch worldwide. Participants of Coke Studio Pakistan have been able to challenge the norms, cook something new that has endeared the show to the people making it a very famous music series.
