Naamkaran 2 begins where Naamkaran 1 ended and hence is simply the continuation of the first season of the serial. Ashish, the successful filmmaker, is still conflicted with his mom’s steadfast refusal to accept his lover and partner, Asha, with whom he has a daughter by the name of Avni. Despite that, they are not legally married yet. His mom, Dayawanti, is in strict denial of his relationship with Asha as she strongly disapproves of interreligious marriage, and as Asha is originally a Muslim, Dayawanti seems to harbour an inexplicable hatred towards Muslims. And she tries to wean him away from Asha and Avni by forcing him to marry another girl. Unable to bear this, Ashish breaks away from his mom and comes to live with Asha and Avni.
Dayawanti interprets this as Asha’s devious plan to separate her son from her and goes to confront her. The cruel and heatless encounter leaves Asha heartbroken and humiliated and pushes her to take the difficult decision of letting go of Ashish. Ashish, however, sticks to his decision to be with his family. Never the less, he still tries to reconcile with his mother, who, despite all efforts, makes things difficult.Though the dynamics between Asha and Ashish are a significant part of the show, it is principally about the cute Avni, who is struggling with the unique setup of her family having to withstand the taunts of the rest of society, which has already labeled her as an illegitimate child. The show aired on Star Plus.
