49th National Film Awards The National Film Awards gets presented every year >> Read More... ceremony took place on 23 February 2003 for the best feature and non-feature films of 2002. A. P. J Abdul Kalam, the President of India, awarded the prizes to the winners this time. The directorate of film festivals presents the awards, an organization established under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India. K.K Kapil, K.S Sethumadhavan, and Bharat Gopy head the people announcing the awards for the different sections: books on Indian cinema, feature films, and non-feature films, respectively.
Starting with the awards, they classified into feature and non-feature genres and books written on Indian cinema. The award is a Swarna Kamal and a Shawl and award money of One Lakh. Moving on to the feature films, they got awards at both regional and national levels. The national film award went to a Kannada film, Dweepa. Lagaan won the best popular film providing wholesome entertainment. The Best Direction award went to Ooruku Nooruper in Tamil by director B. Lenin, winning the prize money of fifty thousand. The Best Debut Film for a Director went to a director named K.N.T Sastry for the movie Thilaadaanam. Following that, Bub won the award for the Best Feature Film on National Integration.
The Best Film on Other Social Issues went to the movie Chandni Bar. Murali and Shobana won the award for Best Actor and Best Actress.
