Kanaala Nanjunda Tirumala Sastry was born on 5th September 1945. He was a Telugu Film critic, producer, director, and litterateur. Though he spent most of his academic life in Kolar, seeking education in a Kannada medium school, he learned Telugu. He has also written a book in Telugu titled Apuroopa Chitraalu, which won him a national award. He is known for famous movies like Daasi and Kamli. Sastry kick-started his career as a film critic, writing several articles on Indian and world cinema in numerous publications such as The Hindu.
He had been passionate about cinema from his early teens and finally achieved his ambition of making quality films. He has won a couple of National awards for his documentary on Surabhi Nataka Samajam and the best debut director award for Tiladaanam. He has also received six international honors. Sastry served as a jury member for several organizations such as Vladivostok International Film Festival, Indian Panorama-International Film Festival, Nandi Award, etc. he was also the chairman of the critics' Jury at the National Film Awards The National Film Awards gets presented every year >> Read More... .
