‘Kadamattathu Kathanar’ is a popular Malayalam TV series that was telecasted by Asianet channel in which the actor Prakash Paul played the title role of Kathanar. Movie director T S Suresh Babu has directed the serial. The series is based on a Syrian Orthodox priest of Kadamattom Church, who is believed to have some supernatural powers. It is a biopic serial on the Church priest. Asianet had launched the serial with a belief that rituals and folklore are always an integral part of Kerala.
The serial was shot in and around God’s country, and rural images clicked well with the audiences. When the serial was telecast, it delivered a new introspection to the lives of a rural folk culture of Kerala, and the serial tale was an idea of both of facts and fiction. After the show was moving towards success the Asianet channel had briefed then to the media that the TV serial had a unique theme and its treatment constituted the folk culture of the state.
The story was considered to be a mystery and had spun around a beautiful demon (called Yakshi) that haunts a particular family in a village. The family members then approach the Christian priest, the Kadamattathu Kathanar. What next happens between the demon and the family is divided into various sub-plots which are the content of the serial. Anto Puthiry, General Manger of Asianet Channel then told the media that to cater to all age groups; Malayalam small screen industry had just experienced for the first time the use of graphics and animation in the serial.
An effort was taken by the team of the serial to make it more exciting so that performance can grow up in an interesting manner for every episode. Since the day one, the series was well accepted by male and female audiences including the kids. The serial gained top ratings every week since its launch. It was a great success, and the serial gained excellent viewership across the state. It was considered to be a new horror show because of the demon character.
