Kasavu Thattam is a recently launched Malayalam music based reality show which started airing on May 2012 onwards aired on one of the leading Malayalam entertainment television channel Amrita TV. This music based Malayalam reality show features some of the finest singers who compete among each other’s and delivers some of the finest in the category of Mappilapattu songs which are Muslim or Islamic devotional songs in Malayalam usually originated from the coastal Malabar area of Kerala. Kasavu Thattam is a 100-episode reality show on Mappillapattu or Malayalam Muslim music, which showcases conventional folklore Muslim songs originating from the Malabar area of Kerala. This show started from 24th May, and telecast thrice a week, Thursday to Saturday at 11 pm.After a rigorous auditions contest held in Dubai which was attended by nearly 125 participants, Amrita TV shortlisted 20 contestants to participate in this reality show.
The jury for the show comprises V.M Kutty, writer,composer,singer and an authority on Mappillapattu; V.T. Murali noted musician and exponent of Malabar songs; and Cybella, noted Mappillapattu singer. The grand finale of the show was a held and celebrated with grandeur and pomp. Singer Shirin Fathima was declared the winner of the show. The songs that were sung in the show and the tunes were of distinct Arabic-Malayalam dialect.
