Chandrakanta is Hindi fantasy drama show that will be aired on the Viacom Network channel, Colors TV. The show is set to replace a popular primetime show and will be telecasted from 24th June 2017 on weekdays at 8:00 p.m. Chandrakanta is the remake of the mega-budget fantasy television series of the 90s with the same name. Chandrakanta in the 90s was the biggest blockbuster in the history of Indian television starring Shahbaaz Khan and
Shikha Swaroop as the main leads.
The story was loosely based on Devaki Nandan Khatri’s novel ‘Chandrakanta.' Colors TV is set to bring the same nostalgia back for everyone but with their own approach under the production banner of Balaji Telefilms, backed by Ekta Kapoor. The story of the show, however, remains similar to the original one. It is a story of love, betrayal and revenge with a background of magic. The story is a romantic fantasy and revolves around a warrior princess, Chandrakanta who belongs to the kingdom of Vijaygarh and Prince Veerendra Singh of the kingdom of Naugarh.
The princess loses her family as a baby in a war waged by the evil Queen, Rani Iravati of Naugarh. To save the princess from any harm, her mother Rani Ratnaprabha decides to send her away to Suryagarh as soon as she is born. She is brought up in a village by fishermen and hence grows up to be a fierce, independent and strong woman who has no clue about her past. As she is a princess, her beauty is mesmerizing and she also possesses magical powers. She is a perfect example of beauty with brains.
After twenty-one years, she suddenly comes across Prince Veerendra Singh, and he is in awe of her beauty. They instantly fall in love with each other. The story takes a sudden turn when the princess comes to know about her past and realizes that the man she loves is the son of the same woman for whom she had lost her entire family and her kingdom. Now what is left to be seen is what she chooses - love or revenge. Is she the one who is destined to put an end to the reign of the evil Queen of Naugarh?
This love story between two rival kingdoms unfolds into very interesting twists with the input of magic or ‘tilsm’ as it is called in the show. The show will have television and film actress,
Madhurima Tuli in the titular role of Chandrakanta. She has already worked with Balaji Telefilms before.
The male lead will be played by
Vishal Aditya Singh, who has been the male lead in one show before this. Rani Iravati who is the main antagonist in the show will be played by
Urvashi Dholakia who is already very popular amongst the audience with her negative roles. Shilpa Saklani,
Sandeep Rajora and
Purvi Mundada will be seen in other supporting roles.
