The 22nd Filmfare Awards ceremony was held in the year 1975. Basu Chatterjee’s clean and simple film ‘Rajnigandha’ was the best film of the year. Simultaneously this film even won the critics’ best film award. Manoj Kumar’s blockbuster film’ ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan’ gave Manoj Kumar best director award.

 This film fetched best lyricist award for Santosh Anand for song’ Main Na Bhooloonga’. The best male singer award went to Mahendra Kapoor for song ‘Aur Nahin Bas Aur Nahin’ from ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan’. Asha Bhosle got the best singer award for the song for ‘Chain Se Hum Ko’ from the film ‘Pran Jaaye Par Vachan Na Jaaye’. Jaya Bhaduri received the best actress trophy for her performance in ‘Kora Kagaz’ and actor Rajesh Khanna received the best actor trophy for Basu Bhattacharya’s film ‘Avishkaar’.

Veteran actress Durga Khote got her trophy as a best supporting actress for her role in film ‘Bidaai’. Vinod Khanna got Filmfare trophy for his supporting role in film Haath Ki Safai. M. S. Sathyu's much critically acclaimed film 'Garam Hava' swept the award ceremony by winning three major awards. It fetched best dialogue award for Kaifi Azmi, best screenplay award to Kaifi Azmi and Shama Zaidi and best story award for Ismet Chugtai.

Tapan Sinha’s film ‘Sagina’ fetched best art direction award for Sudhendu Roy, Manmohan Desai's film ‘Roti’ gave Kamlakar Karkhanis best editing award. The best actor in the comic role went to actor Mehmood for the movie ‘Vardaan’.
