“ Yatra” is the biopic of the late Andhra Pradesh CM, YS Rajasekhara Reddy. The film is directed by “ Mahi V Raghav.” Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devi Reddy produced the film. K Krishnakumar composed the music. Sathyan Sooryan cranked the camera and Sreekar Prasad is the editor. The film features “ Mammootty,” Suhasini Maniratnam and Jagapati Babu in the lead roles. Rao Ramesh, Posani Krishna Murali, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Sachin Khedekar and Vinod Kumar played the supporting roles.
The plot is about how YSR won the 2004 elections with his Padayatra. YSR decided to campaign his party with the historical Padayatra. He walked and walked and reached the people and listened to them. He got to know about their troubles and their needs during the Padayatra. He also faced tough situations, during his yatra. How YSR overcome those troubles and won the elections is the story.
Mammootty lived as YSR and carried the entire film on his shoulders. He thrashed away all the comments made against him to do the role. Many people were against casting the star, as he might not suit the role. But, if not Mammootty, none could have pulled this role better. His emotional performances are awesome. Rao Ramesh, Sachin and Jagapati Babu did their parts well.
The director Mahi had designed the screenplay well. The way Mammootty portrayed YSR is excellent and thanks to the casting team. As this film is based on YSR and the schemes he brought to the welfare of the people, the film seems to be a political canvas for YSR party. Besides this, they had shown TDP in a poor light. So, it might not go well with TDP People. The production and technical values of the values of the film are good. The camera work is perfect and the walking shots need a special mention.
What’s Not There?
Whatever may be the reason for making this film, it is Mammootty, who carries the film in his shoulders and proves his worth as a versatile actor.
