The rest of the screenplay is all about this.
Star Performances
G.V. Prakash being a National Award winner composer in real life portrays Jeeva with such finesse that there is hardly any dull moment. Gouri Kishan shines in her role in the film, delivering a convincing and resonant performance. Their on-screen chemistry enhances the effect of this film on the audience. Venkat Prabhu did a fine job bringing in the fun as the angry scientist and as Gautam. The rest of the cast also adds to the movie’s narrative through their respective performances.
Analysis
The movie is based on one of the trickiest subject to adapt, i.e., time travel and multi-verse. Even superhero film production company Marvel recently failed to cast a bounding spell with Dr. Strange and the multi-verse of madness. ‘Aidyae’ is one such attempt of Vignesh to cater the sci-fi enthusiasts in India. The film centers on Jeeva, a depressed and suicidal youngster who is burdened with his parents’ death. But his suicide attempt was interrupted by an interview of his childhood crush and young singer, Senthaazhini. So, he decides to confess his feelings to her, but before he could do anything he gets transferred to an alternate reality where he is married to Senthaazhini. This novel plotline feels too good on paper but the film’s screenplay fails to create the same impact. Other than this unique concept the film primarily focuses on a mundane and repetitive love story. The film tries to explain the differences between the two explored realities again and again, which wears off the interest of viewers. The movie’s direction is fine, but Vignesh could have worked more on the screenplay to make it memorable. The acting of the film is what makes it immersive. All of the performers did a great job bringing their characters to life. The chemistry between the lead characters enhances the movie’s beauty. The movie’s cinematography also adds to its beauty. It is compact as well as compelling. The editing of the first half is great, but there are some loose ends in the second half of the film. Justin’s songs and melodious background scores add charm in the movie. While the first half is entertaining and engaging, the second half falls apart. The predictability of the climax adds to the lack of interest.Â
What’s There?
•        The film showcases a novel and complex story to work on.Â
•        The impressive acting performances of the actors in the film.
What’s Not There?
•        The editing of the film’s second- half is sloppy which makes it overstretched.
•        The movie’s climax is predictable.
•         The film’s screenplay is filled with loopholes.
Verdict
‘Aidyae’ is a Tamil sci-fi film through which the director tries to showcase a different story. The film is based on a very intriguing concept but the execution of the film makes it less compelling to the audience. Rather than focusing on the scientific element, the movie’s story relies heavily on the eccentric love story. The film takes a different approach but fails to create a lasting impact. It is a go-to Sci-fi film blending the intricacies of time travel and alternate realities.
