Plot
The Malayalam film Kismath is directed by debutant Shahnavas K Bavakutty. The film is based on a tragic true-life story about a young couple. The plot revolves around the relationship of Irfan, a 23-year-old upper-class Muslim boy, and Anitha, a 28-year-old Dalit Hindu girl. The actor is a B-Tech student, while the actress is a research student. The plot revolves around the couple’s decision to marry against their family’s wishes. Their family forbids them from marrying because of their caste differences and age. So they decide to seek help from the police. But after they visit a police station for protection, they realize that everyone in society has the same ideology.
Star Performance
The cast is really good. Shane Nigam plays the main lead in the movie. He has an innocence and a mature side that make his character interesting. His acting during the police station scenes and also during the whole film is great. Sruthi Menon is the next main lead in the movie. She did wonderful in acting the emotions of her character. The chemistry between the duo is beautiful. Vinay Fort usually goes for comedy roles, but in this movie he is more like a villain. He played well as a selfish policeman. The supporting characters were also great.
Analysis
A Malayalam movie with an older actress and a younger actor is rare. It tells the story of two people in a relationship who want to lead a life together. However, their relationship is troubled due to their different religious backgrounds and age gap. All those who love realistic films have reasons to be very excited about Kismath. The plot turns when their families protest their relationship, and the duo seeks help from the police. But they didn’t expect the cops to be like their parents because they come from the same society. With other examples, the film questions the current culture. There is a scene where an Assamese man is questioned without proper evidence. The movie ends with the lead character, Irfan, dying at his father’s hands.
