Plot

This movie revolves around the life of a young girl Kalyani and her father Vijayraghavan Nair. Kalyani is an ordinary high schooler and her father Raghu is an engineer. Kalyani's mother died at the age of 42. Her life turned upside down, after the demise of her mother. The story follows how they struggle with the absence of her. She discovers the recipe book from her mother. In the upcoming works, she has to deal with the patriarchal society and the behavioral change of her father, whom he used to idolize. The story unfolds with how Kalyani finds a way to move forward.

Star Performance

As an actress, dancer, model, and choreographer, Aathira Rajeev showcased her versatility in portraying a young girl. Pradeep Kumar did his exceptional acting as Kalyani's father. They delivered the bond between a daughter and father surviving the hypocritical society.

Analysis

Daayam deviates from the typical story focusing only on the loss of the loved one which makes the audience engaging to watch. It focuses on humor and teenage romance as well. Prasanth Vijay directed the film The Summer of Miracles (2017) with a similar theme based on the loss of a parent. The director Vijay said the writer Indu Lakshmi's early life experience of losing her mother inspired the movie. The writer is a female so it has allowed the director to explore the viewpoints of the movie quickly. Rini Udayakumar played a traditional aunt, Bala Shankar as a maternal uncle, and Ranjini George as a female colleague of her father played their roles effortlessly. At the end of the film, the girl faces the challenges instead of accepting them which the audience appreciates the outstanding performance of Aathira Rajeev. Her on-screen presence is extraordinary. If you like films that explore the complexities of power within a family, then it will be worth watching.
