The super-hit trio of Rajkumar Hirani, Aamir Khan, and Vidhu Vinod Chopra in 2014 came up with the blockbuster, ‘ PK’, released on 19th December, 2015. The director-actor-producer trio was last together for ‘ 3 Idiots’, which was also a super hit on its release. PK grossed over 700 crores worldwide on its release. It is the only film to collect such a number in Bollywood. PK became a national talk on its release. It mostly gained praise, but was also criticized by a few for its picturing on a religious topic. Banned in a few states, it had to go through harsh treatment from some, which included burning of posters. However, nothing could stop PK from being successful. It was hugely loved by the audience and received good reviews.

Plot:

PK is a science-fiction comedy, which featured Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. Aamir Khan plays PK, an alien from another planet. Anushka Sharma is a reporter at Cherry Bajwa’s channel, which is played by Boman Irani. Sushant Singh Rajput plays Sarfaraz Yousaf, a Pakistani boy studying in Belgium. Sanjay Dutt, Saurabh Shukla, and Parikshit Sahni feature in supporting roles. The film is directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vinod Chopra Films. The film has a strong social message on the issues of religion in India. PK was made for 82 crores and bagged 100% profits by grossing over 700 crores. The music was also a super hit featuring Ankit Tiwari at his best.

Analysis:

PK is the name of Aamir Khan’s role in the film. Having arrived from a different planet, he has no name, but some run of comic events land him the name, PK. PK is an human-like alien who has landed on Earth for research work. He is sent by his planet members to research about his look-alikes on Earth. He lands in Rajasthan, naked. Unaware of things on Earth, his spaceship remote control is stolen by a man who he approaches. He cannot return to his planet without the remote control. On the same day, in Belgium, Anushka Sharma as Jaggu, falls in love with a Pakistani Muslim student, Sarfaraz. Jaggu’s father is against her choice and seeks the approval of godman, Tapasvi Maharaj, played by Saurabh Shukla. Tapasvi Ji predicts that Sarfaraz will cheat on Jaggu. Jaggu is determined to prove Tapasvi Ji wrong and asks Sarfaraz to marry her tomorrow itself. Jaggu is shocked at Sarfaraz for not turning up for the wedding.

She is heart broken and returns to India where she works as a reporter. Days after her return, she meets PK, who is distributing leaflets about God missing. She finds a story in him and saves him when he takes money from a donation box. PK trusts Jaggu, and narrates her the run of events since he landed on Earth. He meets Bhairon Singh, played by Sanjay Dutt, and helps him come to Delhi. People tell him that only God can return his remote. He sincerely prays to all Gods and finds out that Tapasvi Maharaj has his remote. On his attempt to claim the remote, PK is thrown out. Tapasvi Maharaj claims it to be Lord Shiva’s. Jaggu is reluctant to believe that PK is from another planet as he talks in Bhojpuri, but once she believes him, she promises to help him claim his remote and takes him to her house. Jaggu runs a campaign against all the godman’s with the help of PK. Tapasvi decides to confront PK on National Television. PK, who is devastated by the loss of Bhairon Singh in a blast, confronts Tapasvi Maharaj and proves his theory on Jaggu wrong by revealing the truth about Sarfaraz. Tapasvi promises to return PK’s remote if he is proved wrong. After making calls to the Pakistani Embassy where Sarfaraz worked, it is found that Sarfaraz did not cheat on Jaggu. A chain of misunderstood events separates Jaggu and Sarfaraz. PK retains his remote. He does not confess his love to Jaggu knowing that she loves Sarfaraz.

He is ready to go home, but is unhappy about his separation from Jaggu. He takes voice recordings of Jaggu’s poetry. PK leaves Earth with a bag full of tapes and batteries. Jaggu publishes a book on PK after he is gone. PK, along with his fellow aliens, return to Earth one year later for further research. Ranbir Kapoor makes a guest appearance at the end as an alien.

Verdict:

PK is a must watch film for all Indians. It has a social message, which has been addressed. There is comedy, drama, and emotions. It received 4.5 stars, which say everything about the movie. Aamir Khan is exceptional in his role as PK.
