Amardeep Jha is a veteran Indian television, film actress and television presenter. She was born on June 14, 1960 at Patna, Bihar, India, from a Maithil Brahmin household in Bihar. She then moved to Mumbai to work as an actress. She has a daughter who is also in the acting industry; her name is
Shriya Jha
. She is a popular Telugu and Oriya film and television actress.

She was debuted as a television actress in the Indian drama soap, Amanat in 1997 on Zee TV, where she played the role of Amit’s Mother, following with few television serials like, Kuch Toh Log Kahenge in 2011. She also made a cameo appearance in the primetime series, Baa Bahoo Aur Baby as Nakli Meenakshi in 2008. She played a supporting role of Sumitra in the Indian drama soap, Sapna Babul Ka… Bidaai from 2008 to 2010. She was also part of the renowned drama serial, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai where she played the role of Shankari Tai in 2009 up to the present. Along with it, she was starred in the Hindi serial, Sindoor Tere Naam Ka and Director’s Kut Productions, Amrit Manthan.

Amardeep also made her entry to the renowned serial, Balika Vadhu where she will be playing the role of Sushasini, an elderly woman who was abandoned by her son and put her in the old home for the aged.

Aside from television serials, Amardeep also did many films. In 1998, she acted in films like Dushman, Train to Pakistan and Zakhm. In 2001, she played the role of Ammaa in the Hindi drama film, Lajja, and then she acted in the super hit film, Devdas as the mother of Kalibabu. In 2003, Amardeep was starred in Satta and in 2004, she acted on the Bollywood suspense film, Aetbaar as Mrs. Trivedi and the English film, American Daylight under the production of Kaleidoscope Entertainment. She also acted in White Rainbow and Naina in 2005. She also did the Canadian drama film, Amal as Radha Kumar.

She also appeared in the all time blockbuster Indian comedy drama film, 3 Idiots as Mrs. Rastogi along with
Aamir Khan
and Kareena Kapoor in 2009. Also, Amardeep did the Bollywood psychological film, Murder 2 as the mother of Reshma. She also did the short film, Shor (Noise) in 2012. Recently, she did the film Kaanchi where she appeared as the mother of Bagula (played by
Chandan Roy Sanyal
). She was also in Kaanchi which portrays the story of a woman’s inner power. Amardeep also acted in several Bollywood films and because of her experiences as an actress, she usually trained her co-stars and teaches acting lessons. She used to be a teacher in the National School of Drama and she enjoyed sharing her knowledge with her co-stars especially to new comers.
