Looks like Maddock Films is in a serious crisis for now.
Only months after delivering back to back blockbusters with Munjya, Stree 2, and subsequently Chhaava, the production company is suddenly facing one problem after the other. The release of its latest venture, Bhool Chuk Maaf has been blocked by the Bombay High Court after PVR INOX Pictures sued them for an alleged breach of contract.
But why? Bhool Chuk Maaf was to release in the cinema halls by May 9, a week after Raid 2. However, less than 48 hours before the release, the makers decided to postpone the film completely and release it directly on Amazon Prime Video, citing the political tensions on the Indo-Pak border.
While that is not a bad idea, doing it only hours before the release didn’t go down well with many, especially with the exhibitors. PVR INOX, the original distributors of this movie accused Maddock Films of breaching the contract and sued them for compensation worth 60 crores.
As if this wasn’t enough, Maddock Films is facing legal troubles with several OTT platforms, due to which movies like Pooja Meri Jaan, Rumi ki Sharafat, Sarvagunn Sampanna etc., which were scheduled directly for an OTT release, now face the threat of being shelved. Let’s hope Dinesh Vijan solves everything in time.
