Analysis
A film that seems like ‘Speed’ on tracks? Well, that’s what ‘Unstoppable’ is. Based on actual events, the Tony Scott directorial is slick, fast-paced, and yet strongly embedded in realism. The plot isn’t unique, but the approach taken by director Tony Scott and writer Mark Bomback can be called so.
Unlike many of the cartoonish films masquerading as action flicks, Tony Scott takes a more realistic approach. The railway operatives are no superheroes. They are regular employees, vulnerable, and yet they have the potential to do the unthinkable.
Of course, there are some heroic moments. Yet, none of them are over the top. ‘Unstoppable’ may seem like ‘Speed’ on railway tracks, only that it is less commercial and more humane. Also, if the director is Tony Scott, you can be assured that the film won’t be devoid of action.
Chris Pine and Denzel Washington shine in this action thriller. If they are on screen, you feel concerned for both. Yet, you have this assurance that in the end, everything shall be all right. Their performances keep you interested in the plot. The supporting cast is also commendable, with Rosario Dawson and Kevin Dunn being the standout performers.
Yes, there are some issues with keeping the narrative intact. The editing may also not seem crisp in some sequences. However, they have little impact on the overall experience, which is engaging, as well as rooted.

Verdict
‘Unstoppable’ is one action film that keeps you engaged, and makes you cheer for the protagonists. Yet, by no means, this is over the top, or bizarre like other action flicks. You can watch this without any second thoughts!
