is a documentary based on the life of George Mallory, who attempted to reach the summit of the Mount Everest in the year 1924. A biography of George's life is explored through the letters exchanged between George and his wife, Ruth.
PLOT:
In 1999, Conrad Anker and Leo Houlding discovered George's body and his articles in frozen condition. But the duo could not get the picture of his wife, Ruth. They descend to the base to unravel the mystery in his death. They also try to ascend the mountain with the gadgets that George possessed. Parallelly, a voice-over is provided in the explanation of the personal life of George. The letters between George and his wife Ruth is read in the movie.
ANALYSIS:
This film excels in providing a detailed sketch of George's personal life and his obsession. The letters were read by Ralph Fiennes and Natasha Richardson. Unfortunately, this happened to be the last movie Natasha has worked in. She passed away soon after her work in this film. The mission to discover the final moments of George seems to be less genuine. The methods used by Anker for the discovery also seemed to be uncertain.
The real unacclaimed heroes are the cameramen, who captured terrific shots from different angles. The voice cast does a great job in giving a real effect to the narration.
STAR PERFORMANCES:
Though Anker appears to be passionless at first, his scientific temperament makes his presence more interesting. The other cast does what is required of them.
WHAT'S THERE?
The camera effects are something to be looked out for. The scene where Anker's tender assistant climbs the mountain send chills to the spine.
WHAT'S NOT THERE?
The story does not concentrate more on the mystery behind George's death.
VERDICT:
A second attempt for us to witness the great George's expedition.
