This is a science fiction movie, which is jelled up with a story based on a novel, triumphantly portrayed on the screen with an amazing script to screen transformation. “The Hunger Games” directed by Gary Ross Gary Ross is an American screenplay writer, film d >> Read More... featuring Jennifer Lawrence She’s an Academy Award winning actress at her youn >> Read More... , Josh Hutcherson The notorious actor of the Hollywood industry, Jos >> Read More... and Liam Hemsworth Liam was born on January 13th, 1990. Plot:

The story is set in the vision of the future of a corrupt utopian city, where as a punishment for a past rebellion in the nation of Panem, boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18 should take part in The Hunger Games, an annual event in which they have to fight to death until there’s only one survivor.

The story revolves around Katniss Everdeen, who takes her younger sister's place along with Peeta Millard. They train for the Hunger Games under Haymitch Abernathy, a former victor. As it is, Peeta falls for Katniss, and they encounter there contemporaries, who unlike them, have been training since childhood. The story further deals with the whereabouts of Katniss , her doubts in following the guidance of Haymitch, and seeing death closely yet every time escaping it. It revolves around the competitors sequences where she makes friends and foes. In the process, Rue, a friend of Katniss, dies and Katniss, contradicting the basic premises of the Games, affectionately places flowers on her dead body. This is the turning point of the movie as this compassionate act doesn’t go down well with the President, and rules are changed as to allow two winners if they are from the same district.

This regaling tale then paces fast, ending with Peeta and Katniss being declared as co-winners with sudden plot twists included, but will the Katniss- Peeta bond last beyond the Hunger Games?

Analysis:

The film has its share of criticism from book lovers who weren’t quite welcoming towards the adaptation, but it also won hearts of the people who had never read the book. So to conclude, it draws a fine line between not as good as the book, but good enough for those who won’t read the book.

Though the movie is predictable at parts, it displays thrill, intelligence, and is sure to engage audience with its emotional appeal in the midst of violence and death race.

Star Performances:

Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss Everdeen, and portrays the same in a very believable kind of way, from colouring her hair brown to performing flawlessly, she was totally into the character, which was visibly obvious. This was perfectly complimented by Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Millard, who was also very admirable being the strong man with deep emotions, and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, who was a treat to the audience. Also Woody Harrelson has an important part to play as a coach.

What’s there?

A hardcore science fiction, which features all the necessities of an ardent fan to love it, ranging from being inventive, action-packed, and at the same time being emotional and sentimental. Jennifer Lawrence is strikingly vulnerable as Katniss Everdeen.

What’s not there?

It is accused of drawing resemblances from other science fiction works and being quite predictable.

Verdict:

To every science fiction fan, it makes for a one time watch. One might not like it, but you can’t definitely hate it.
