“All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” - Abraham Lincoln
Plot : This movie describes the childhood life of Abraham Lincoln, whose life track changed with the help of his mother and his step mother. His desire to learn was more and more encouraged by his mother. When Abe feels bad for not being understood by his father, his mother makes sure that his bad feeling does not turn into a hatred and makes Abe understand that his dad loves him too. Highly bonded to his mom, Abe felt devastated when he lost his mom. She was so supportive and she made her best in convincing his father.
The director has mainly concentrated on the family and physical circumstances, which did not act as a barrier to Lincoln’s desire for learning. All the parts of the memories were knitted together beautifully and given to the audience

Shots taken in Indiana were so natural. Director has captured all the intricate details of Abraham’s childhood, like him exploring all things around him. Abe’s never ending thirst for nature was clearly shown and this was also supported by his school teacher. Abe’s mom Nancy ( Brit Marling Brit Marling is an American Screenwriter, Producer >> Read More... ) character’s sensitivity has been beautifully shot.
The expressions delivered by the artists during their dialogue free performance were good. Most of the details are conveyed often with the help of the visuals and the music. At times, director Terrence Malick’s touch can be seen almost everywhere. This happened because of the fact that Edwards has worked with Malick’s last 3 films. It is so heart wrenching to see how a small boy faced a hardship time. Cinematography by Matthew J. Lloyd was so beautiful. The black and white texture throughout the movie was one of the major plus.
Verdict: The movie was more than a poetic type. It was beautiful, but a bit boring though. This eventually ended the movie to land amidst the mixed reviews. Unfortunately, director missed to hit the top notch.
