Plot
In dystopian America, former U S Marine Gabriel Drummer (Shia LaBeouf) desperately searches for the whereabouts of his wife and son, while dealing with his trauma accompanied by his best friend and a survivor.
Star performance
Shia LaBeouf gives a fantastic performance as a troubled marine corp. Gary Oldman has again nailed the authoritative senior role. It's a rarity when he delivers a bad performance. The rest of the cast has done an excellent job as well, even though their characters are underwritten.
Analysis
The film has a non-linear screenplay. Gabriel has PTSD, and the makers have tried to build the narrative of the story around that but failed miserably. Shia LaBeouf put forth an honest performance. He embodies the character well and even looks the part but the lack of depth in the story lets his performance and this film down. The heavy editing seems to be replicating the confusion a PTSD patient has, but it doesn't pan out like that. It feels like manipulation rather than being insightful of the condition. The military scenes are so cliche it feels like a kid has written this. Gary Oldman again gives a fantastic performance. All the actors in the film have put forth exceptional performances but the story and the execution let the movie down. Man Down is people trying to handle a delicate subject, but instead of tackling the subject it goes back to the drawing board.

Verdict
If you’re a fan of Shia Labeouf only then you can somewhat enjoy this film.
