Plot
Semper Fi revolves around a man named Cal, a police officer and Marine Corps reservist. He and his brother Oyster are the main characters in this film. He faces cognitive dissonance when his reckless younger brother gets into a bar fight and accidentally kills a man. His brother’s crime confuses him as it tests his loyalty for the law versus for his family. Oyster receives an unjust sentence in court and is forcibly held in a dangerous prison. In the meantime, Cal and his colleagues get deployed to Iraq. Later, Cal is very affected and traumatised by his experience at the war and the people he killed. He feels that he is no different from his brother; in fact, he might be worse. So he finally decides to break his brother out of prison.
Star Performance
The best performer in this film is Jai Courtney. Apart from Jai Courtney, Nat Wolff has also given a brilliant performance.
Analysis
The acting by most of the cast members was decent, but the best were the performances given by Jai Courtney and Natt Wolff. They seem to be the only ones who gave their best. The film explores the themes of social justice, brotherhood and even sacrifice. However, the theme of sacrifice should have had more depth and should’ve been explored more; just sacrifice for the sake of sacrifice is not deep enough. The pace of the film is too slow. The plot of the film was good, but the characters lacked character development. The music in the movie, however, was quite good.
