Star Performances
The film might not be your perfect superhero adventure, but the production designers did their best to make it at least visually appealing.
Despite having an icy relationship, Ryan Reynolds did his best to fit in the shoes of Green Lantern. Mark Strong as Thaal Sinestro is equally good.
Analysis
There is a reason why Marvel is a notch ahead of DC. It is just not because of the funding these films receive, but where the funding goes. ‘Green Lantern’ is an ideal example of how even the best of ideas can go down the drain with bad execution.
A simple glance will tell you why Ryan Reynolds would rather forget this venture. Sadly, it was not his fault either. Like they say, ‘too many cooks spoil the broth.’ Despite having four writers in his kitty, director Martin Campbell could not make an engaging screenplay for a film that had the potential to bring DC back into the game!
The narrative takes too long to build up. Even if the actors did their best, the antagonist’s buildup, as well as his appearance ruins it all. Who likes to fight a pushover? But ‘Green Lantern’ suffers from these very flaws.
The only few bright spots are the efforts of the production designers. They give it their all to make the film at least aesthetically good. Despite his issues with the makers, Ryan Reynolds tried his best to make his rendition of Green Lantern look convincing. Mark Strong as Thaal Sinestro is stern and equally resolute. If only more screentime was allotted to him.

Verdict
‘Green Lantern’ could have been the brilliant start to DC Verse after Christopher Nolan’s tryst with Batman. Director Martin Campbell’s execution, sadly, ruined the possibilities. The movie is watchable, but only due to Ryan Reynolds and his on-screen mentor Mark Strong!
