Plot

It Ends With Us is a novel-adapted movie based on a childhood traumatic woman, “Lily Bloom”. She overcomes her trauma to embark on a new life by fulfilling her childhood dream of opening a business. Lily is a self-motivated woman, passionate about flowers, and wishes to open a flower shop. She spent her childhood watching the toxic relationship of her parents that left a trauma in her mind. Her father used to beat her mother, and mentally assault her. The movie starts with her father’s funeral when she returns home.

She moved to Boston where she met a handsome neurosurgeon, “Ryle Kincaid” and both of them deeply fell in love with each other. After she fell in love with him, she started to remember the toxic relationship between her parents. Ryle asked Lily, if she wanted to have sex with him, that doesn’t entertain Lily that much. Ryle has anger issues and he explodes on Lily.

Her first love, Atlas Corrigan, made a comeback in her life that lifted her relationship with Ryle. Atlas, Lily’s first love, was an unhoused young man. His mother kicked him out of the house when she was in a relationship with a man. After all this melodrama, Lily finds out that she must be dependent on her own strength only. Ultimately, she married Ryle, the rich handsome guy with anger issues.

Star Performance

All the stars in the movie gave their performances so that the audience could build an emotional connection with the movie. “Blake Lively” as “Lily Bloom” acting was up to the mark that showed the emotional side of a woman and how they deal with trauma, relationship, and passion. All the other starring actors played well to portray their characters.

Analysis

The movie “It Ends With Us” is adapted from one of the best-selling novels titled “It Ends With Us”. The story revolves around the love story, childhood trauma, and passion of a woman named “Lily”. It is a romantic drama that portrays the love triangle between Lily, Atlas, and Ryle. The movie tries to explain the woman stuck between two men, the one rich guy with anger issues, and the other homeless guy troubled by his mother.

It includes romance, drama, adult scenes, emotions, domestic violence, and more. The movie mostly focuses on female emotions, how they go through the mental trauma due to toxic relationships and why they should focus on their own strength. The movie tries to portray why women keep in the toxic relationship in the hope of everything turning right. The character’s wardrobe in the movie is so costly to portray her pricier lifestyle.

What’s There

  • It provides some brief conversations about why women keep stuck in toxic relationships.
  • The movie provides a brief about how women deal with their childhood trauma along with their career and relationships.
  • The movie tries to encourage men to understand their women’s emotions and to support them.

What’s Not There?

  • The movie fails to illustrate the deep emotions a woman goes through.
  • There are some adult scenes in the movie.
  • The movie tries to prevent domestic violence but it ends up presenting abuse in a cautions manner.
  • One of the character’s abusive nature has justification in the movie.
  • Some domestic violence scenes, including cuts, blood, and sexual assault are portrayed in the movie.

Verdict

The movie is basically about emotional abuse, relationship drama, and trauma, which most of the audiences can connect to. Lily, who had already seen her mother troubling with domestic violence by her father, herself became a victim of it. Audience can build an emotional connection with the movie. Viewers who already read the novel will know what’s going to happen next, but watching a novel on the big screen is another kind of feeling. The movie will entertain both those who already read the novel and newcomers.
