There is protest headed by the BJP government against the movie Mersal starring Vijay. But, in favor of the movie, the Kerala State Congress held an agitation in Trivandrum. Former Central Minister and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor who participated in the event spoke:

It is the democratic to convey messages through cinema. The movie was censored and there is no right for anybody to protest against the movie. But, the BJP political party is threatening the producers of Mersal. This is not acceptable. The dialogue with respect to the GST is befitting. Commoners and traders are against the GST. There is nothing wrong in making it as dialogue in the movie. In the issue, BJP speaks of Vijay’s caste. Do we go to cinema after considering the religion of a person, asked Shashi Tharoor.
