Renowned producer “K Rajan” donated Rs. 1, 00, 000 to set up the Tamil chair at Harvard University. The University is the historical one running for the past 380 years. It has the chairs for a lot of popular universal languages. Even some of the unspoken languages have a chair, there. Sanskrit from India has an honorable chair at Harvard. The American Tamils Dr. Sambandham and Dr. Janakiraman have been taking initiatives to set up a Tamil Chair at Harvard. Tamil, one of the world’s oldest languages, which is still spoken by 70 million people all over the world, doesn’t have a chair and now, the efforts have been taken. Rs. 40 crores is required to set up a Tamil chair and the TN Government has donated Rs. 10 crore.
