The Kannada film, Thithi, helmed by the debutant Raam Reddy Raam Reddy is a popular young director in Sandalwo >> Read More... , won two top awards at the 68th edition of Locarno International Film Festival, which was held in Locarno, Switzerland.
The film bagged the Cinema of the Present (Concorso Cineasti del Presente) and the Swatch Award for Best First Feature. Thithi revolves around the three generations of family that dwells in the rural area of Karnataka. The climax of the story is when they all meet during the cremation of the head of the family.
The film was starred with non-professional actors and it is the first Indian film to be chosen in the festival after eight years. According to the director, “It has always been a dream of mine to capture a little piece of India’s soul on film, and this was the attempt with Thithi.”
