According to the recent reports, ‘Emergency’ might face a ban even before its release. In the trailer of the movie, there were a couple of references that threw light upon Indira Gandhi’s tussle with Khalistani separatist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, which led to her assassination.
Now the supporters of Bhindranwale have taken offence to it. Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, who is a current Member of the Parliament, has objected to the film’s take on the Punjab issue, and has demanded a ban on the movie, accusing the movie of attempting to show the Sikhs in a negative light.
Sarabjit’s claims have been backed by Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, who have objected against the release, and have demanded the movie to be banned atleast in Punjab, if not anywhere else. ‘Emergency’ is a political thriller that will cover Indira Gandhi’s as a political leader, to becoming one of the most controversial Prime Ministers that India has seen till date.
The film will also focus on the internal emergency imposed by her government from 1975 to 1977, which is considered to be one of the darkest episodes in the Indian democracy till date, when the fundamental rights of every citizen were suppressed at the behest of Indira Gandhi and her son,

. The film will be directed, as well as produced by Kangana Ranaut, and it would hit the silver screens by 6 September.
