Sanjay Gandhi, an Indian television and theater actor is most famous for his role as Mahendra Pratap Singhania or fondly called Daddajee in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Born and raised in Delhi, Sanjai Gandhi determined to become an actor at a very early age. After basic education he joined the National School of Drama and actively participated in theatre and stage shows. When he moved to Mumbai, he met Makrand Despande at Prithvi theatre. He became a member of his stage group and did many plays together. He spent many years of his life in stage shows and theatres.
His entry on the small screen was through Pradhan Mantri on Zee. He acted in many other shows like

, Kahin To Milenge, Choona Hain Aasman and Kayamath. But it was his role in Yeh Rishta that made him popular. Amongst his popular Bollywood films is Black Friday, where he had a small role.
He is mostly recognised for his role as Daddajee in the show Yeh Rishta. He reportedly had to take Marwari class lessons as the character Sanjai portrays is a staunch Marwari. In 2010 however the actor quit the show due to internal differences within the crew. According to sources, the reason for his quitting was the growing insecurity of the lead cast due to the increased importance of Sanjai’s role. As friction increased, Sanjai declined to shoot in the unhealthy atmosphere and quit.
