She works with the Colonel Shamsher Singh Foundation, an NGO which works for various causes. She has been part of several projects such as Shraddha- a school that rehabilitates autistic adults, Green Comandos-an initiative to save the environment. She was also a part of The Wockhardt Foundation on the advisory board. She also raised her voice against corruption in India. Nandita Das holds a post-graduate degree in Social Work from The Delhi School of Social Work. She has campaigned for social causes like AIDS, child survival, violence against women. She has also raised her voice against colour bias in India for which she supported a campaign named ‘Dark is Beautiful’. She is Co-Founder of Leapfrog-an advertising agency that makes socially conscious ad-films for the society. She has spoken a lot about gender inequality in cinema and society, also about how her films throw an impact on the society. In 2009, she was appointed as the Chairperson of the Children’s Film Society, India.
